ZION YOUTH GOVERNING BOARD: Meeting Minutes – October 10th, 2007
Zion Youth Governing Board – called to order at Zion.
Present: Sue Foster, Kim Gleason, Pastor Steve Svoboda, Jenny Paripovich and Myron Crawford.
Actions: Kim reviewed the open actions list from our Strategic Planning meeting last July. The following items were updated and dicussed:
- Newspaper Postings bulletin board (place identified, Myron to begin on (need date)
- Recruit volunteers (face to face or by phone) and gather Conf. e-mails/cell phone #’s (Myron/Pa.Steve)
- Increase visibility of youth in services (actions/discussion at next meeting and discuss with Worship com.)
- Communicate Guide involvement after Confirmation on Oct. 4, Create a sign-up chart for where parent help is needed for ease of sign-up. (Done and will review in Nov. mtg.)
- Discuss meeting time to see if this time and day still works for members: Kim to check in with Kevin who has started a new job to see if there is a conflict.
Youth Calendar/Activities: (This area cut short due to Myron needing to be at the High school because of a head on collision involving a student). All set for Middle School Fun night – Terrifying Hayride. Food drive will be Nov. 10th for both Middle School and Sr. High students. Nov. 18th CLUB time will be going to Upper Room in Minneapolis for an emerging worship event leaving approximately at 3:30 pm for a 5:00 pm worship service. Supper along the way.
Website: Discussed our interactive website and the problem with returning messages in a timely matter. In a nut shell, it was decided to treat the website like you would a phone message with the mindset to return as soon as possible. Angela does the majority of the message returns but sometimes needs to pass on certain questions to other leaders. We will continue to monitor and see if the workload becomes unbearable.
Structure: The thoughts are to continue to go ahead with our new structure. We will need more parent involvement for each specific program.
40 Days: Will be discussed at our December Meeting. A short discussion on some ideas just to document include: Utilize former guides for some of the small group needs. Amy Chalupnick is involved as a leader for this and could possibly provide more information and insight. (Note to Amy: We will want to schedule the Dec. meeting around your schedule so this topic can be discussed ).
Draft agenda for Nov. 7th meeting:
- Review Actions and updates (10 minutes)
- Discuss Website missing links: (i.e. youth calendar blank, outdated info. on website etc. – let’s discuss what we can do to keep it updated or choose a different communication route)
- Confirmation Parent meeting outcomes to help our new structure (Myron and Pa. Steve – 5 minutes)
- Youth Programs updates (Myron – 15 min.)
